At cate brown. we create sustainably sourced, hand selected, objects of finery. Individuality is said to be the highest level of luxury, we believe that beauty is found in the stories our choices tell. That’s why at cate brown. we seek to offer alternatives to the “fast-fashion” approach to homewares and celebrate reclaimed luxury craft.

Our first collection is a curation of bespoke made cushions from hand-selected vintage garments, chosen for their fine details and beautiful unique fabrics. Our Atelier range takes this concept to the very highest level of vintage garments by fashion houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Hermes to name a few.

Each garment is researched and documented to pay homage to the original design, before being carefully patterned and deconstructed to create luxurious cushions for your home. The idea stemmed from wanting to repurpose these gorgeous textiles that might otherwise be discarded or unused due to the high production runs of fashion or some flaw or irregularity. These beautiful fabrics deserve to be enjoyed and celebrated for their heritage, refinement and luxurious design elements. We also combine each garment fabric with a rich elegant deadstock remnant backer textile.

Ethos

We have a love of beautiful interiors and quality designed objects combined with an awareness of our planet’s finite resources. Our goal is to create for the better and be an advocate for a circular economy without compromising style and luxury.

In our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, we have made an eco-conscious decision to no longer ship inserts with our sustainable luxury cushion covers. This environmentally friendly approach allows us to minimize packaging materials, reduce transportation emissions, and promote an even more eco-conscious brand ethos. We encourage you to consider reusing or repurposing existing inserts you may have or explore sustainable alternatives available locally. This only applies to online purchases and the new reduced website pricing is reflective. If you are shopping at one of our brick-and-mortar retail partners, they sell our cushions with their locally sourced inserts. We seek to show how recycled is beautiful, to raise awareness of the damage to the planet caused by our fast-fashion, throw-away culture, to inform and encourage people to buy better, repurpose and extend the lifespan of their fashion.

Craft

Designed in-house and produced by skilled seamstresses cate brown. pieces are designed and made locally in Brooklyn, New York and Vancouver, British Columbia. We individually select our fabrics, design patterns and carefully deconstruct the original garments, each item is documented and its history marked. These stunning and meticulous details transition so beautifully to interior design. Your favorite fashion reimagined for your home.
