Meet Cate

cate-brown-profile.jpg

Cate is an interior designer living in Vancouver, Canada and New York City. Having always had a passion for fashion and interior design it was only time until her love for both fused together. When Cate began to learn of the impacts of the fashion industry on the environment and the incredible amount of textile waste going to landfills each year, she knew change has to come and wanted to be a part of it. Thinking about the designer garments sitting in her own closet (some rarely worn!) and the beautiful details, colors and textures of the fabrics, she thought how could I re-purpose these?

That’s when fashion and interior design collided; from hanger to home! Cate went to see her seamstress and explained the idea. Now learning about seam-rippers and garment deconstruction... the seed was planted and growing. Suddenly every fabulous vintage garment Cate saw on the NY subway was being designed into toss pillows in her head. Her and her team then began to gather quite a collection of unique vintage and end-cycle garments.

Cate’s keen eye for detail and love of fashionable fabrics combined with her award-winning home design has collaborated to create the most luxurious one of a kind toss pillows.

Her first collection launched at the luxury gallery store Maison Ten on 5th Avenue in New York and received rave reviews.

She was invited to team up with New York’s Housing Works for their Main Vignette at the 2019 Design On A Dime event.

Cate is a member of the Global Connections For Women Foundation in New York and she has donated her pillows to Safer Spaces (Designers Against Gun Violence) and has collaborated with New York Cares on a specialty series called Helping Hearts.

Her pillows have appeared in Vogue, Elle Decor, Vanity Fair, World of Interiors, House Beautiful, Aspire Home & Design Magazine, Folio Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, Design Now, West 42nd Street Magazine and Luxiders Magazine.

The cate brown collections launched on cate-brown.com spring 2019.
