Even in uncertain times, New York Cares continues to meet pressing community thanks to the many helping hearts of our City. New York Cares’ volunteers serve half-a-million disadvantaged New Yorkers annually. These clients, many of whom are now designated “essential workers,” are even more vulnerable to the immediate and trickle-down effects of COVID-19. Food insecurity is skyrocketing, and unemployment continues to be a reality for many. Long-term poverty and generational racial inequity have compounded the social and economic challenges of COVID-19 in these communities.
New York Cares rapidly responded to COVID-19 by developing and managing relief programs for the many NYC communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Regardless of circumstance, New York Cares remains committed to creating a more equitable city by harnessing one of our greatest assets — New Yorkers.
